Enchanters use their magical formulae to grant permanent augmentation to weapons, armor and other equipment. Enchanting requires the use of special ingredients that can only be gathered by disenchanting magical items. Using these ingredients enchanters can make items more powerful.

Enchanting is a higher-level Profession, thus requiring more work than most Professions. The enchanter does not generate items directly from the skill, but instead makes existing items better.

To attain higher levels of enchanting, enchanters often must repeatedly cast enchantments on their friends equipment, sell enchantments to other players, or offer free enchantments.

Another challenge for enchanters is gathering magic items to disenchant in order to gather the required enchanting reagents. Additionally, enchanters must also work with other Profession masters to create a few other reagents required for enchanting.

Enchanter Levels
There are four levels of enchanting: Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert and Artisan. You will need to work your way up the ladder to enable more powerful enchantments.

Becoming an Enchanter

The "enchanting trainer" will start the player out with beginning-level enchanting. You can find the enchanting icon, which will launch the enchanting pop-up window, in the abilities book (hit "p").

Enchantments also sometimes require specific components that can be purchased from trade merchants. Enchanters will also need a runed copper rod, and later a runed silver rod to perform certain enchantments. They will need to get this basic rod from a blacksmith (or buy it) and then enchant the rod themselves.

Disenchanting

Disenchant - "Extracts the magical elementals from good quality (Green) or better weapons or armor. Destroys the weapon or armor in the process."

After you disenchant an item, you'll receive a loot box and you can pick up the items you have created by disenchanting.

You receive the Disenchant ability when you acquire enchanting. The reagent you get from disenchanting an item depends on the item type and level.

Armor - Usually dust (Sometimes essence and if you are very lucky, a shard)
Weapons - Usually essence (Sometimes dust and if you are very lucky, a shard)
Blue Items - A shard
Purple Items - Multiple shards

Your enchanting recipes then require various ingredients, with the really powerful ones requiring a shard as one of the reagents.

Make sure you don't disenchant an item you wish to keep.

Finding items to Disenchant

  • Ask your friends or guildmates to send you old items they don't want so that you can disenchant them.
  • Buy disenchantable items from other players. Some players try to sell them for this purpose.
  • Disenchant soulbound quest items rather than selling them.
  •

    Enchanting

Select the proper enchantment in the enchanting window, and press the enchant icon on your action bar (or the corresponding hotkey). Then, click on the item you wish to enchant. This can be performed upon items equipped by your character or in your inventory.

A method of enchanting items for other players is to use the non-trade slot in the trade screen window. Instruct the other player to place the item they wish to have them enchanted in the trade screen window. Next, the enchanter should perform the enchantment on the item in the trade screen. Place your cursor over the item, and it will indicate that the item has been enchanted and that it will not be traded. You both then press the trade button, the player will receive the item back, and the enchantment will be complete. You can only enchant one item at a time in the trade screen window. Players should not give you their items to have enchanted. It should only be done via the trade screen window, without actually trading the items.

    Enchanting Supplies
Some required ingredients can be purchased from the enchanting supplier. They sell things such as copper rods, simple wood, star wood, and may also have some rare limited supply items.

    Additional Information

    • Enchanting is a hardcore skill for hardcore players. It takes a lot of work and players should realize this before getting into it.
    • It's OK to "feed" enchanters with items. This is expected. Have all your guildmates and friends send you items that they don't need so they can be disenchanted.
    • Enchanters can only enchant weapons, gloves, boots, bracers, cloaks, and chest pieces.
    • You can enchant anywhere, you don't need a special place to use your Profession like Blacksmiths do.
    • You can find additional enchanting recipes, called formulae, from hidden trainers or as drops from monsters.
    • Buy a formula at the auction house.
    • If you try to cast another enchantment on top of an existing enchantment, it will prompt you with a message asking if you want to overwrite the older enchantment.
    • Leatherworkers armor patches do not stack with enchants. You must decide which is more important to have.
    • If you close the disenchanting loot pane without looting the item, the Dust or Essence or Shard is automatically looted for you.
    • Enchanting an item with an enchantment that will cause the item to become soulbound and will prompt the enchanter with a warning message before the enchantment is cast.
